Jane Drexler

Welcome to my professional portfolio.

I am Associate Professor of Philosophy at Salt Lake Community College, primarily at the Redwood Campus, and teach the full range of our philosophy course offerings at SLCC:

  • PHIL 1000:  Introduction to Philosophy (HU)

  • PHIL 1120:  Social Ethics (HU)

  • PHIL 1250: Reasoning & Rational Decision-Making (CM)

  • PHIL 2300: Introduction to Environmental Ethics (HU)

I earned my doctorate in 2004 from State University of New York at Binghamton, focusing on moral philosophy, social and political philosophy and philosophies of race and gender.  I spent three years as assistant professor at a university (Kent State) before deciding to focus my professional career on teaching, and I joined the faculty at Salt Lake Community College in 2007.

What you'll see on these pages
What I hope you will notice when you peruse these pages and accompanying material is a dedication to effective and inclusive practice:   You'll see evidence of and reflections on an engaging teaching style, intentionally designed activities and assessments, in-depth and individualized feedback.  You'll see me say a little bit about the courses I have created, and the larger college-wide and department initiatives I have pursued and shepherded that have been directly related to teaching.

I hope you will see how I have dedicated my service efforts to promoting the dignity, scholarship and professionalism of what we do in the Humanities, and as college faculty.  But I hope too that you will see just how much fun I think teaching philosophy is--how inspiring, meaningful and exciting it can be.

Note that my portfolio is divided into three parts:  Teaching, Professional Activity, and Service.   Each section is designed with a goal of ease of navigation and (at least some) aesthetic appeal:  I link to evidence where helpful but not too disruptive; I break sections into readable chunks.

Happy exploring.  And thank you for your consideration.

Warm Regards,
Jane
